[Adobe: “Are you metaverse-ready”] Adobe published metaverse theme white paper to build tools for immersive digital experiences include 3D, Immersive content creation, virtual shopping experiences and digital idenity/assets. Adobe also revealed metaverse collaboration with brands like Coca Cola, Epic Games, NASCAR and NVIDIA.

[Lenovo spend over $15B on metaverse] Lenovo unveiled it has budgeted $15B for R&D in metaverse over the next 5 years and engage 12,000 additional R&D staff memver within 3 years. The company will concentrate on areas such as data, augmented reality, virtual reality ,cloud services and next generation AI. Metaverse will become very important use case for them to leverage their core technologies.

[Epic Games x. LEGO Group] Epic Games and Lego entered a longterm partnership to build a metaverse specificially for children to achieve a safe, educational and playful digital experience.

[KFC Owner Yum! Brands applied for metaverse Trademark] Following MacDonald’s metaverse trademark application, Yum! Brands , the owner of KYC, Taco bell and Pizza Hut, also move towards the Metaverse by file trade marks for its name and logo for drinks and foods in metaverse.

[WarnerMedia exploring movie NFT] Warner Media CEO Jadon Kilar expressed his optimistic in Blockchain as he said the future of Hollywood is the blockchain. Asserting his plan after departing from WanerMedia, he said that he is not retiring.

[BitDAO community Proposal ask for Bybit’s donation] BitDAO community released a new proposal ask Bybit to buy back $21M of BITper month, using the previous funding, on the secondary market and donate to BitDAO.

Regulation and Adoption

  • Mar 28 (🇺🇸) A new proposal aims to redefine a security dealer to regulate the electronic trading of US Treasuries may require Defi platforms to register with the agency, a move which may “cripple” the industry.
  • Mar 29 (🇺🇸) Multiple state securities regulators are scrutinizing Voyager Digital’s interesting-bearing crypto accounts. New Jersey has issued a cease and desist order against the company for selling unregistered securities.
  • Mar 31 (🇪🇺) EU voted to approve a proposal to extend the AML requirement of payments over 1000 EUR to crypto sector, requiring the identification of the payers and recipients of the transactions even with self-hosted wallets. The proposal will also aim to cut off unregulated crypto firms from the European financial system.
  • Apr 1 (🇮🇩) Indonesia plans to impose 0.1% crypto tax starting in May.
  • Apr 1 (🇰🇿) Kazakhstan is to bring crypto exchanges to its Astana International Financial Centre(AIFC), created in 2018 as a central Asia financial center.
  • Apr 4 (🇬🇧) Government planning on making the UK a global cryptoasset technologic hub.
  • Apr 5 (🇩🇪) German Police shuts down marketplace HYDRA, seizing 543 BTC.
  • Apr 5 (🇺🇸) Vantage Bank Texas introduces a Bitcoin saving plan for employees.
  • Apr 8 (🇪🇺) EU bans the provision of “high-value crypto-asset services” to the Russian Federation.
  • Apr 8 (🇿🇦) South Africa finalizes technical PoC wholesale CBDC settlement system.

Macro

  • Stocks continue recovery from session lows but end the quarter lower. SP500, Nasdaq, Emerging markets and China stocks all rebounded this week. The SP500 index decreased about 5% for the first quarter, the worst quarter since the first quarter of 2020 when COVID first discovered. The US markets has rebounded about 10% from its from the lows. The corporate earning season will start mid April and it will be very important for the next move of the stock market.
  • Bond market also recovered, with AGG and GOVT up 0.61% and 0.45% separately. However, this is still the worst quarter for the bond market since 1980.
  • The unemployment rate fell further to 3.6%, showing strength in the labor market and a post pandemic low. the labor force participation rate is at 62.4%, a good sign that more people are entering the workforce.
